I wanted to start by saying thank you to everyone who has been following along with all my thoughts and preparations as I get ready to leave. I figured I had better get in the habit of blogging if I wanted to do it while I was gone, but I didn't really expect anyone to read all my "getting ready to go" posts. Looking at the stats, I'd say I have somewhere between 30 - 40 people following along as I embark (not to mention the residents of Golden West!). Thank you for taking the time to visit. I've mentioned it before, but knowing there are people out there who care and who are, in a way, taking the trip with me makes it all the more exciting.
Yesterday was a bit of a hard day. It was the day I panicked a little and announced that there was no way I was getting on a plane to Africa. It suddenly felt very overwhelming and scary. We went for a long walk to burn off some nervous energy and I extracted dozens of promised from my dear husband. (You'll miss me, right? You'll remember to feed my cat? You'll take care of yourself? I can call if I get too lonely even if it's expensive? And so on...)
This morning I am finishing up the last of my packing and getting ready to go. As mentioned previously, I don't arrive in Cape Town until the 18th, and am not sure about net access during that time. But I sincerely hope you'll keep coming back, because this is finally where things get interesting!
See you on the flip side!
