Day two of orientation. It was a busy day! We got going around 10:30 am and did sightseeing in New Delhi. This included the Qutub Minar, the Lotus Blossom Baha'i temple and Humayun's Tomb
The Qutum Minar is an early Islamic monument and was started in 1192. It's made of red sandstone and marble. The area surrounding it is full of ancient and medieval structures and ruins. It is UNESCO World Heritage site and attracts many tourists as a result. We spent about an hour wandering around. Many of the ruins still have intricate carvings and the whole area is quite strikingly beautiful.
The Lotus Blossom Temple was constructed as a symbol of purity. It is surrounded by nine pools of water that help naturally cool the temple. People of all religions are welcome to sit and pray or meditate in silence inside the temple. It is cool and peaceful inside, and I was very happy to sit in the quiet. You must remove your shoes before approaching, but there are burlap mats to keep your feet safe from the scorching pavement.
